Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking a Dispatch Supervisor/Lead Dispatcher who reports to the Operations Manager and keeps him/her apprised of all matters affecting the facility. He/she will also help to promote a safe, reliable, and efficient operating environment. He/she must present a professional image to all customers/clients, drivers, and fellow staff members. The Dispatch Supervisor is primarily in charge of monitoring dispatch operations and constantly seeks ways to improve operations efficiency. Constant communication is key for this position and must be two-way at all times. Most importantly, he/she will maintain the highest standards of excellence in appearance and attitude. He/she must serve as a professional role model for all dispatch staff and drivers.


  • Ensures that all incoming calls are answered by the third ring.
  • Assign vehicles to drivers and prepares daily roll-out logs; records driver attendance and submits the daily attendance log.
  • Schedules trip reservations and has knowledge of available capacity for each time slot and area and negotiates trip time when necessary to prevent overbooking.
  • Dispatches trips to drivers ensuring that all trips are covered and that all buses on route are effectively utilized.
  • Strives to assign a pick-up to every driver as soon as they are in service and/or available.
  • Coordinates trips and drivers so that the last drop-off is cleared in time for drivers to end their shift per the posted schedule; avoids second shift drivers waiting for vehicles.
  • Supervises and directs drivers; collects trip sheets, DVI's, and fare box monies at the end of each shift.
  • Maintains a professional attitude over the radio at all times; monitors driver radio use and reports any misuse of radios to Operations Manager.
  • Possesses extensive knowledge of the service area and programs served in order to be an effective dispatcher.
  • Announces safety messages over the radio on an hourly basis.
  • Reports all vehicle defects and breakdowns to Maintenance and Operations Manager.
  • Adjusts to daily changes and takes corrective action as necessary to ensure efficient service operation.
  • Schedules all dispatch staff to assure that all hours of operation have coverage per the contract.
  • Responsible for supervision of all dispatch staff including commendation and discipline.
  • Mentors all subordinate staff and ensures that all dispatch staff are properly trained in all areas.
  • Appoints and trains persons to act as Dispatch Supervisor in his/her absence.
  • Coordinates with Operations Manager and Dispatch staff for driver schedules and customer inquiries.
  • Actively participates in all meetings and submits any required reports in a timely manner.

Talent Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of streets and locations in specific area required.
  • Ability to work with and communicate clearly, accurately, and effectively with the general public, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to solicit and record relevant data precisely.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write any target minority language desirable.
  • Keyboarding skills and knowledge or experience with personnel computers.
  • Ability to obtain required licenses to cover all services provided by specific location.
  • Ability to read a map and geo-code addresses correctly.
