In 2006, my mom was diagnosed with cancer. I had to quit my current job to transport my mother to and from her doctor appointments. During my mother’s transition, we learned of paratransit and the services it provided to the community. Although she was unable to utilize this service, I felt intrigued to become a part of providing the freedom of movement to others in my community.

I applied for a Dispatch position in West Palm Beach, FL. During my interview, a manager stated, “in order to grow and understand the purpose behind MV’s vision, you must first experience it from a driver’s perspective!” My life changed from that moment. I am a General Manager within 9 years of my career! In the next 5 years I see myself as a Senior Vice President (SVP). My hope for the future of women within this company is continued empowerment and mentorship.

I started with MV as a Customer Service Representative. I love having the opportunity to help others and partner with Operators to improve their driving behavior to become a safer driver helping our customers and assisting them on getting their independence. I am proud to work at MV because of the opportunities for all the employees to explore different path and to build a successful career.

My career at MV has been a wonderful journey where I have had a lot of different experiences. MV provides opportunities to learn and explore other roles and the staff and regional management are always supportive of my learning journey. My best advice for others is not to be afraid of asking question or making mistakes, learning is a journey that needs coaches and MV has a lot of them willing to help.

I started my career in transit in 1983 as a bus driver in Baltimore, Maryland. I was quickly promoted to Project Planning, then to Grant Writer and worked with the legislature on farebox recovery. I began at MV as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Operations. I was promoted into Run Dispatch, then Labor Relations, and ultimately as the President of StarTran, where I was responsible for all day-to-day operations.

One of the main role models in my life was my Grandmother. I loved her dearly. She invested in people. She made me realize my potential. She bought me my first typewriter and said to me “You will never fail in your purpose.” I still hear her voice echoing in my ear. In my initial career phase, my grandmother (Pearl Miller) helped me realize that I had the potential to lead and pushed me to take action. I probably would have done fine in my career but the valuable knowledge I gained with my grandmother’s guidance helped me perform my at my best! What I have realized is that while we may have all the answers inside us, and sometimes we have this vague picture of what we want to do in career/business, mentors and coaches help us bring it forth, and push us to take action.

I joined MV because I wanted to drive and help others. I am now the Safety Supervisor for a division in New York. In my role, I handle all accidents, incidents, worker's compensation, ticket repayments, DriveCam coaching, and safety courses, classes, and meetings. I make sure all the safety data is inputted into the system accurately and efficiently.

What do I love about my job? The flexibility of my role and the people I work with. Safety has been a part of almost every job I have had, so it’s important its message is given properly. Being able to work with a company that sees safety as important as me makes me proud to work at MV.

I would describe my career at MV as fulfilling. I am reaching levels that I didn't realize I wanted to reach and could achieve. MV supports me by providing good management and teams that are a pleasure to work with and by giving me access to all of the resources needed to fulfill my job.

I started my career at MV as a Dispatcher, where I partnered with Operators to ensure Riders reach their destination safely and timely. Since joining MV, I have had the opportunity to grow in several positions. Today, I am an Assistant General Manager and help the division achieve its profitability and success.

MV became a part of my life at the age of 14 when my grandmother rode the service. The way the people treated us like family made me want to be a part of it. I love that I am helping the community members be as independent as they can be with a ride from us. I love helping my staff learn new skills to aid them in the growth of their career. The kudos and commendations received from our riders and client that they love the service we provide and are do a great job at it. MV has been my other family and I appreciate it.

I think my story at MV is more than I could have ever imagined. In the beginning I didn't think I would make it. But, with the proper training and encouragement from my leadership I'm doing it and happy about it. They provide me with endless opportunities.

I started my career at MV as a Road Supervisor for Reliant School Bus in the Bronx. I was fortunate enough to have other roles (e.g., Operations Manager and Safety Manager) at MV that helped me grow and develop. I am currently the General Manager of the Uber WAV Division in N.Y. My responsibilities are to oversee the division. Every day involves a balance of managing the financials, scheduling, human resources, payroll, purchasing, etc., and spending time with employees to help and guide them.

My job is challenging, but I love the fact that I have built a good team from within the ranks of the division and we all brainstorm to solve problems that arise. This is what I love most, is seeing people develop and move on to take higher positions within the MV family.

My advice to others is to BE A SPONGE and learn as much as you can. If someone is willing to teach you something, then listen and learn.

I started with MV as a Matron at the Staten Island location while I lived in Queens. I traveled for a total of five hours back and forth to work each day. I later found out there was an opening in Queens where I became a Shape Matron and shortly thereafter became the Maintenance Clerk and recently the Maintenance Manager.

Ultimately, I’d like to assume more managerial responsibilities and take on new challenges. I plan to take advantage of the educational resources provided and use those skills to continue building my career at MV. Based on my observations, MV currently has some of the most innovative thinkers in the industry and that’s a big reason why I would love to build a career with MV.

My advice to women starting out in this industry would be to work diligently. Be encouraged. Believe in yourself. Do not sell yourself short. Absorb all the knowledge you acquire each day. Use that knowledge to your benefit. Learn from those around you, be a solution-oriented person and always keep your end goal in mind.

I am the General Manager for the Stockton Division. I came to MV Transportation because I knew the company was very family oriented and had an open-door policy. I took comfort in that if I ever felt I needed assistance I could pick up the phone and go as far up as the owners and speak with each one. When I began my career with MV I was hired as the Operations Manager for my location and 2 years later I became the General Manager.

Where do I see myself in 5 years? I will be right here in my location, continuing to serve my community, growing my location, watching my employees strive to be the safest drivers, and helping my colleagues. Any future woman starting in this industry, just know you can do it! You can work in any aspect of transportation. Do not let anyone hold you back. Grow to the potential you know you have.

Years ago, I thought that driving a bus would be a good career. I was hooked into joining MV when learned how the company started by helping those in need and the values of the company. I have since worked as a Road Supervisor, Operations Manager, and General Manager and plan to retire at MV.

I love that we provide freedom to people who otherwise might not be able to get out and do things for themselves. My employees make me proud to work for MV. This job requires a love for helping people and a desire to do the right thing. I have drivers and staff who have been in this profession and with this company for more than 25 years. Their commitment to helping others and being safe is amazing.

There is always something new to learn, MV is constantly offering trainings either in Microsoft Team or via MVU. They make you feel like if you don't know something, it is okay to ask for help or training.
