Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking an Assistant General Manager who will provide support, leadership and direction to assigned operating location(s) to ensure delivery of annual business plans. He/she will control the daily operation of our fixed route and dial-a-ride contract, in compliance with the policies of the contracting agency and in conformance with company procedures. The Assistant General Manager is primarily responsible for but not limited to:

  • Supervise the daily activities of all operators, supervisors, dispatchers, and other operationally focused personnel
  • Look for and implement proactive solutions to increase overall service performance
  • Provide effective operations design, system scheduling, and management
  • Prevent and mitigate service delays, interruptions, and accidents
  • Provide complete data collection, compilation, analysis, and reporting
  • Ensure the knowledge, preparedness, and professionalism of all operating personnel
  • Effectively manage On-time performance and driver availability
  • Effectively manage road supervision, dispatch and scheduling functions
  • Effectively manage customer relations through both direct contact and outreach programs
  • Identify, select, train and mentor location staff
  • Understand and apply operating rules and policies consistent with client and MV policies and procedures
  • Effectively and frequently communicate with location staff and support team members
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with Clever Devices or similar dispatch/communication system for fixed route services
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with Trapeze or similar reservations/dispatch/scheduling system for Dial-A-Ride services
  • Assist in overseeing safety and training programs, plans and processes to ensure compliance with company, contract and regulatory requirements
  • Contributes to maintain the safety culture of the division
  • Maintain client contact routinely to meet or exceed expectations
  • Assist with conducting periodic departmental audits
  • Daily, weekly and monthly review of key operational metrics
  • Implement, promote and adhere to company policies and procedures
  • Participates in location employee relations activities
  • Will act as the backup to the General Manager and assume the responsibilities of the General Manager during any absences

Talent Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Extensive management experience required
  • Shall have a minimum of eight (5) years of direct successful experience in public transportation operations, including at least three (3) years of supervisory experience managing a transit property/operation of similar size and scope (over 54 buses)
  • The ideal candidate will have experience mitigating operational issues
  • The ideal candidate would have experience in personnel management and training
  • Must be able to work independently and have strong written and verbal skills
  • Knowledge of the client contractual obligations is a must to perform this job correctly
  • Knowledge of company policy assures that the field operator is using consistent measures to assess a drivers' activity
  • Experience managing fast paced environment
  • Additional duties/responsibilities based upon individual contract requirements
Starting Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000
