Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking a Human Resources and Labor Relations Manager to lead the HR functions at our Transit client site in Las Vegas, NV. This will be a highly-collaborate, hands-on role with oversight of two separate work sites. The ideal candidate will work directly with local and regional leaders in a matrixed reporting structure to ensure that all HR functions are properly executed, including (but not limited to) employee relations, labor relations, recruiting, employee engagement, benefits administration, as well ensuring that documented processes, like terminations, FMLA, etc. are properly managed and executed. This individual will also work with Union leadership to resolve any issues and provides guidance to the management team as it relates to progressive discipline actions.

  • Acts as a HR and Labor business partner through strong relationships with local and regional leadership to provide timely and responsive guidance and solutions.
  • Serve as a liaison between Operational leadership at both operational sites as well as regional Labor and HR leadership to ensure consistency and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that critical, urgent, or atypical matters are immediately escalated to regional HR and Labor leadership to ensure proper and timely handling.
  • Handles questions and communications regarding MV Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards, and government regulations.
  • Administers human resource programs, plans and procedures for company personnel; assists in the development and implementation local processes in accordance with corporate policies.
  • Collaborates with functional leaders at the local level to ensure processes are being followed as it relates to the documentation and processing of hires, terminations, transfers, leaves of absence, etc.
  • Partners with functional leaders at the local and corporate level to develop and execute divisional engagement plan to drive employee engagement and improve employee retention.
  • Maintains accurate records as they relate to headcount, absences, and leaves of absence.
  • Manages grievance program locally by ensuring timely responses to the union, coordinating documents, maintaining calendar, etc.
  • Partners with regional Labor Director on escalated labor issues and negotiations.
  • Responds in timely fashion to employee relations issues such as employee complaints, while partnering with regional HR on escalated ER issues.
  • Acts as change agent supporting MV culture, values and changes in process, technology, and organizational structure to accelerate MV's future success.
  • Facilitates and provides training to the workforce.
  • Coordinates closely with corporate centers of excellence and models collaboration across MV.
  • Maintains working relationship with Labor Relations team to ensure aligned messaging to unionized employees.
  • Supports the hiring and termination process of all employees according to company policies and procedures.
  • Assists with AAP hiring goals, required compliance and outreach.

Required Education and Experience

  • This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management or a related field or a SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification.
  • Seven (7)+ years of experience in Human Resources.
  • Seven (7)+ years of Labor Relations experience in a bargained environment
  • This will be a matrixed reporting relationship that requires excellent people skills, commitment to working with shared leadership in cross-functional groups, and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with different departments across the organization.
  • Flexible self-starter; able to manage multiple concurrent projects while remaining detail-oriented with an attention to quality.
  • Demonstrated ability as a hands-on leader that can drive efficiency and lead by example.
  • Computer and software proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
