Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking an "A" Level Lead Mechanic/Technician who will perform preventive maintenance inspections on various types of vehicles. He/she will manage a fleet of 20 - 40 vehicles, assign work to other Technicians, purchase parts, and process paperwork. The position requires the Technician, must be able to teach, to diagnose, inspect, and change or repair defective coach components, sub-components, and systems on vehicles as time permits, more complex repair techniques. The A Lead Technician must possess a CDL license with brakes and a passenger endorsement, a 609 and 608 air conditioning certifications and at least H or T series ASE certifications. This position will report to the General Manager. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Diagnoses, examines, and investigates vehicles to determine causes of defective operation of engines, transmissions, differential units, generators, starters, pumps, air suspension systems, pneumatic systems, radiators, injectors, clutches, air conditioning systems, and other vehicle components.
  • Determines proper course of action to facilitate vehicle repair, maintenance, adjustment, and component replacement.
  • Maintains, adjusts, and/or repairs all bus systems, components, and parts including hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, front ends, and air conditioning systems to ensure the operational fitness of coaches.
  • Performs major overhauls, major tune-ups, and repair to brakes and steering systems.
  • Changes windows and seats, and performs minor body repair.
  • Operates buses in order to diagnose component failure, make roadside repairs, or move disabled buses.
  • Operates heavy machinery, hydraulic lifts, hoists and jacks, brake lathes.
  • Communicates, and consults with all levels of employees.
  • Performs related duties, as required.
  • Direct the work force.
  • Order parts and maintain inventory.
  • Process paperwork and manage work load.

Talent Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Effectively use and operate the tools and equipment required for the repair and maintenance of large vehicles.
  • Understand the theory, operation, and repair of diesel and CNG powered vehicles, including engines, transmissions, ignitions, and electrical hydraulic/pneumatic cooling, heating, and brake systems.
  • Learn and follow industrial and shop safety rules.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Learn and effectively use personal computers and the company's software programs for inventory and parts.
  • Read maps and locate road-called vehicles.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Work independently under continual training and close supervision.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work using principles of good customer service.
  • Combination of at least one (1) to two (2) years of journeyman level verifiable training and experience in automotive or diesel mechanics, which may include high school mechanics courses and/or a regional occupational program.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug testing.
  • Have taken basic automotive or heavy duty repair courses or have good understanding of basic automotive/heavy duty systems.
  • Have journeyman level tools.
  • Must be a least 23 years of age.
  • Must possess, or obtain and maintain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver License with Air Brake and Passenger Endorsements, and a medical certificate by date of appointment.
  • Submit resume with a current DMV H6 print out and meet the company's safe driving standards.
  • Work well with others.
  • Must be able to work a varied schedule.
  • Willing to learn.
  • Available for training.
  • Able to lift up to 70 lbs
