Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking a Payroll Assistant - Garnishments for our Elk Horn, Iowa Support Center. Successful applicant will perform duties as assigned with an emphasis in the following areas:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Obtains mail and distributes to all departments.
  • Handle all garnishments/legal documents in a timely manner - ensuring the court and the creditor are notified within the appropriate time frame.
  • Set-up all garnishments in our Lawson system for all employees being garnished.
  • Enter & process all phases of employee garnishments and answer company & vendor inquiries.
  • Process Manual entries/adjustments as needed.
  • Prepare check requests and obtain approval and send to AP for payments.
  • Collaborate with HR, Payroll, Union and Vacation departments.
  • Prepare all paper check payments to vendors for mailing and stuff & mail the envelopes.
  • Prepare weekly garnishment reconciliations and obtain approval.
  • Prepare specific reports/data for inquiries such as vendor audits.
  • Contact employees/creditors/attorneys/city marshals/child support enforcement and the IRS to provide information as required.
  • Prepares all refunds and reprocess payments for stale dated vendor checks.
  • Handles all bankruptcies in a timely manner.
  • Enters all garnishment modifications.
  • Maintain and verify garnishment data in the Lawson system.
  • Ability to learn, retain and research Federal and State garnishment guidelines and seek legal department advice when needed.
  • Record manual adjustments in Lawson related to garnishments.
  • Assist in addressing/researching employee inquiries for garnishments and resolves all conflicts.
  • Answers all incoming garnishment calls in a professional manner.
  • Maintain accurate records and files.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Attendance according to local policy.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area.

Talent Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have data entry, payroll processing and clerical experience.
  • General knowledge of windows-based computer operating systems.
  • Proficiency in Excel required.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively on all levels.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and follow directions.
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality over all information.
