Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking a Routing Coordinator to assist and establish bus routes and in preparing for time schedules for buses for students in the school district, including driving directions, receive and respond to complaints concerning bus routing, problem solve and correct bus routing issues, communicate with all appropriate personnel on all routing issues that affect students.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides transportation information to students, parents, and district staff
  • Provides data support for boundary planning and redistricting projects
  • Develops bus routes based on student enrollment and attendance boundary zones
  • Creates new 2 mile and hazardous boundaries including stops, runs and adjusts to reflect the changes
  • Coordinates periodic updates to the student database and attendance zones
  • Provides route rosters and other data supporting preparation of the state and local transportation reports per Texas Education Agency Guidelines
  • Trains and supports staff and appropriate district personnel in the use of routing software report generation capabilities
  • Performs routing optimization for the following school year and other required beginning and end of year process as necessary
  • Goes to site locations in a school bus to inspect street locations and address ranges of new areas for safety and route consideration
  • Imports/exports database files to routing systems
  • Investigates and resolves complaints/concerns regarding routing safety
  • Works on special projects assigned by the General Manager to determine optimal, efficient bus routing
  • Investigates and reviews all driver/directions issues and determines prevention measures
  • Develops, modifies, and maintains routing reports required for campus, administrators, and transportation record purposes
  • Maintains current district routing software maps and coordinates updates for street changes and modifications
  • Maintains and updates student stop counts and AM/PM stop times for routing software programs
  • Maintains a roster of student for reporting purposes and eligibility requirements
  • Maintains communications with dispatch regarding any changes that would affect bus routing
  • Support, design, maintain and update security changes for the database programs for the division
  • Analyze, configure, and generate student data for bus routing purposes using STAR Special Education software
  • Ensure data accuracy by going out in the field to resolve conflicts
  • Act as a liaison with the district and the third-party software vendor (Versa Trans) to maintain proper software and hardware operations and resolve any program errors
  • Support, design, maintain and update security changes for the database programs for the division
  • Attend professional development classes/training to keep abreast of innovative techniques in the transportation field and or District sponsored meetings related to zoning/rezoning or changing feeder patterns

Talent Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years' experience with routing software
  • Must have school bus driving experience
  • Must have or possess the ability to get their Texas CDL, Class A or B with a P and S endorsement
  • Must obtain with 120 days the Texas School Bus Drivers Certification
  • Must pass an annual physical per DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements
  • Knowledge to operating computerized routing systems
  • Knowledge of demographics, including streets and subdivisions in the school district applicable
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively with campus principals, staff, students, and parents
