Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking a Shop Foreman/Mechanic to manage all maintenance aspects of the maintenance operation to include preventative maintenance and repair of vehicles. The Shop Foreman/Mechanic will manage the maintenance shop and staff. The Shop Foreman/Mechanic will assure that all contractual requirements are achieved. He/she will also work directly on the floor on all vehicles at the location. Other duties include daily, weekly, monthly and annual reporting responsibilities along with the management of the maintenance program budget. The Shop Foreman/Mechanic will work with the General Manager in the running of the day-to-day business. In addition, the Shop Foreman/Mechanic must have experience with air conditioning systems, transmissions, electrical diagnosis, emission control systems, and wheelchair lifts. Qualified candidates must have technical competence with light/medium-duty vehicle repair and preventive maintenance.


  • Performs daily inspections and repairs on entire fleet.
  • Diagnoses, examines, and investigates vehicles to determine causes of defective operation of engines, transmissions, differential units, generators, starters, pumps, air suspension systems, pneumatic systems, radiators, injectors, clutches, air conditioning systems, and other vehicle components.
  • Determines proper course of action to facilitate vehicle repair, maintenance, adjustment, and component replacement.
  • Maintains, adjusts, and/or repairs all bus systems, components, and parts including hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, front ends, and air conditioning systems to ensure the operational fitness of coaches.
  • Changes windows and seats and performs minor body repair.
  • Operates buses in order to diagnose component failure, make roadside repairs, or move disabled buses.
  • Operates heavy machinery, hydraulic lifts, hoists and jacks, brake lathes.

Talent Requirements:

  • Have taken basic automotive or heavy-duty repair courses or have good understanding of basic automotive/heavy duty systems.
  • ASE certified to meet job classification. If not certified, must be willing to get certified.
  • Must possess tools necessary to complete job functions.
  • Work well with others and willing to learn.
  • Ohio CDL with P endorsement is preferred but must be able to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Must be able to properly prioritize, implement and manage work schedules, projects and assignments.
  • Must be proficient in the use of diagnostic software, Microsoft Excel and be able to learn and make proper use of the MV maintenance software.
  • Must have the ability to track and control parts inventories, vendors and suppliers.
  • Must be able to manage the financial / accounting aspects of a fleet maintenance operation.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff in written and oral formats.
  • Must display initiative, professionalism, candor and tact at all times.
  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience in automotive mechanics, which may include fleet experience.
  • Must be available to respond to breakdowns.
  • Must perform inclement weather preparations including snow removal and vehicle cold weather start-up.
  • Must be able to lift 60 pounds.
