Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking an Assistant Director of Maintenance who will assist the Director of Maintenance to manage all maintenance and repair aspects of the operation of 325+ buses and support vehicles. The Assistant Director of Maintenance responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, assisting the Director of Maintenance with the oversight of daily maintenance operations, the organization of the maintenance yard and various administrative duties and special projects. The Assistant Director of Maintenance shall be responsible for substituting for the Director of Maintenance is unavailable. This position will be based in Fairfax, VA and will require travel to other local divisions frequently.

Talent Requirements:

  • Must have five (5) to eight (8) years of diesel equipment maintenance management experience, multi-location experience preferred.
  • Management experience as a maintenance manager or above required, preferably with transit buses.
  • College degree or equivalent management experience required.
  • Experience working with 100+ fleet/buses in last year.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to multitask required.
  • Experience in employee management within a union environment preferred.
  • Must have the ability to analyze systems/processes using six sigma/lean practices and be a change agent to facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Must be able to properly prioritize, implement and manage work schedules, projects and assignments.
  • Must be CDL licensed.
  • Must have the ability to track and control parts inventories, vendors and suppliers.
  • Must have understanding and ability to effectively manage financial/accounting aspects of a fleet maintenance operation.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff in written and oral formats.
  • Must have computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, Microsoft Outlook and FMIS (RTA and Fleet Focus) applications.
  • Must display initiative, professionalism, candor and tact at all times.
  • ASE Certified for Truck/Transit preferred.
