Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking an AVL Radio Controller, who under direction of the Manager of bus operations center, is responsible for monitoring and directing all bus operations division AVL/Radio Communications to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our bus service.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate multi-line computerized radio, Automatic Vehicle Locator, (AVL) and telephone system to monitor and direct all bus operations division AVL/Radio Communications.
  • Provide a communication link between bus operators, road supervisors, and other transit personnel through the use of AVL and radio system to assure timely, efficient and quality delivery of service.
  • Communicate reports of accidents, incidents and problems to the appropriate parties i.e. County personnel, Operations Management Safety, Maintenance, Road Supervisors, Station's Manager, Dispatch, Fire, Police or Medic.
  • Maintain and update within the required time parameters, daily reports; radio logs, road calls, late trip reports, accident/incident reports and other related reports as may be required in the performance of the AVL/Radio Communications Specialist Position.
  • Ability to orally speak/communicate clearly and effectively and make sound judgment decisions quickly in a fast paced work environment and the ability to remain calm and professional during pressure type situations.

Talent Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED. However, preference given to individual with Associates Degree in Business/Transportation/Communication or related field or two (2) or more years of college evidenced by official transcripts with course work in management, communications, or human relations.
  • Two (2) or more years' experience as a Radio Operator/Dispatch in a Radio Communications work environment preferred. However, employees with transit experience will be considered in lieu of college degree.
  • Must be proficient in (MS Word, Outlook, Internet and other customized transit programs, Excel a plus).
  • Ability to use independent judgment and make sound decisions quickly in a fast paced work environment, using company guidelines.
  • Excellent communication skills verbal and written are an essential part of job duties.
  • Must be flexible, schedule may vary to meet demands and hours of the operation of bus service. May include split shift, including holidays, weekends, nights and irregular hours.
