Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking a Division Controller. This position will provide division level analysis to investigate and support operational efficiencies. He or she will work directly with corporate and division staff to understand the opportunities and develop data-driven action plans to address issues and reap benefits. This position reports to the Director of Finance of their local region.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee monthly close process.
    • Prepare various financial analysis reports, performance metrics, and other reports for executive management.
    • Research accounting issues and formulate policy.
    • Understand and prepare complex GAAP accounting journal entries.
  • Partner with division General Manager and Regional Vice President on operational deliverables that impact revenue and expenses of division performance
  • Review monthly financial statement of division and ensure accurate presentation
  • Submit Risks and Opportunities of achieving the division's budgeted and forecasted expenses
  • Partner with corporate and division Finance staff to identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiency.
  • Investigate cost saving opportunities thoroughly and persistently with an eye to impact on cost, operational efficiency, customer service, with direction from Director of Finance, working in conjunction with division General Manager.
  • Develop new KPIs as directed to track and measure success of initiatives such as (e.g., DriveCam, Workers Comp) with local operations data on trips and drivers.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on data files and own the accuracy and timeliness of the data files.
  • Document and revise repeatable workflows and processes for more efficiency.
  • Prepare complex accounting balance sheet reconciliations for the division.

Talent Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • Seven (7)+ years in Accounting and/or Finance experience required; two (2) years supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal relations and communication skills.
  • Proven leadership and organizational skills with advanced problem-solving abilities.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to juggle multiple projects.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Well versed in GAAP, CPA preferred.
  • Above average technology skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables) preferred.
  • ERP/Lawson experience is a plus.
  • Hyperion experience is a plus.
  • Transportation industry experience is a plus.
  • Previous Union / CBA exposure is a plus.
