Job Description

The Electronics Technician position will conduct, maintain, test and repair all designated electronic components located on the inside and outside of the City bus fleet. The noted components will include, but are not limited to the GFI Farebox system, Hanover/Twin Vision Destination Signs, Apollo Camera systems and Connect Card Fare Collection mechanisms. The person filling this position applies knowledge of electronic and mechanical principles in determining equipment functionality and applies skills in restoring equipment to full operation. The duties of the Electronics Technician also include completing on time PMI servicing of all assigned equipment, returning all broken units to specific OEM's for repair, inventory control and troubleshooting to ensure all systems are operating at peak levels.


  • Troubleshoots and repairs all assigned mechanical and electrical systems including programmable controls, numerical controls, power supplies, drives, gauges and test equipment.
  • Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment.
  • Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures.
  • Works closely with company and City personal to identify issues or concerns regarding the proper functionality of all assigned equipment.
  • Maintains company and City required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed.
  • Assists City maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting.
  • Assists and trains other maintenance and other technical-level employees.

Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be exposed to inclement weather while working on the buses. This position will also require the use of various tools, testing equipment and the use of ladders to complete their tasks.

Physical Demands This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing. The employee may be required to lift and move items over 25 pounds.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This job is currently a part time position, although it may turn into a full time in the future. Days and hours are basically set, but the employee will be required to work on the weekends on a regular basis.

Required Education and Experience High School degree is acceptable; however any formalized technical training is preferred.

  • A minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of verifiable experience in the electrical and/or mechanical field is required.
  • In depth knowledge of computer experience is required, including the operation of special instruments for diagnostic purposes.
