Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking a General Manager to oversee the overall operation of the service provider. The General Manager will directly manage all subordinate managers and will ensure that the contractor operations meet or exceed the standards set by the client. The General Manager sets the tone for the behavior and attitude of the staff and requires a person who has proven leadership, customer-service, and technical skills, while possessing knowledge of the requirements necessary to operate ADA paratransit service that balances the needs and desires of the riders.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Providing oversight and strategic planning for the contractor
  • Continuous focus on driving operational efficiency and productivity
  • Responsible for championing and implementing the transformation agenda of the client
  • Working cooperatively with TRAC management as necessary to solve operational problems as they arise
  • Working cooperatively with the client to ensure deliverables fall within the applicable scope and budget, making adjustments to project constraints as necessary based on financial analysis
  • Coordinating with other departments to monitor performance and ensure all aspects of the project are operationally aligned
  • Track project performance, specifically to analyze the successful completion of short and long-term goals
  • Representing the contractor to the public as requested by the client
  • Identifying and investigating all performance issues
  • Developing and implementing methods and procedures for improvement in operations, reflected by change in key operating metrics for each department
  • Ensuring that all reporting is completed on-time and accurately
  • Training, mentoring, and motivating management to achieve their full potential and achieve performance objectives
  • Maintaining company and contractual assets
  • Ensuring compliance of local, state, and federal laws and regulation (including, but not limited to EPA, OSHA, DOT, ADA, and EEOC)
  • Ensuring a safe working environment
  • Being available to respond to service related issues or emergencies at any time during service hours, or designating staff for this purpose who are trained and empowered to take necessary actions
  • Understanding current customer experience and identifying improvement opportunities and improvement plans

Talent Requirements:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of recent experience managing large-scale transportation operations, preferably including ADA paratransit services
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of ADA paratransit regulations and operations, including vehicle operations, maintenance, safety and training either through progressive work experience in large paratransit operations or working with such operations
  • Working knowledge of all systems and technology that will be used in the operation
  • Demonstrated P&L, budget, or financial management experience
  • In-depth understanding and proficiency in the management of the following key operational departments: union-relationship management, safety and training, HR, IT, project management, and maintenance management
  • Demonstrated experience in managing the entire set of functions necessary to run the service delivery
  • Evidence of building strong relationships with supervisors, peers, and subordinates
  • Demonstrated ability to build and continuously motivate highly effective teams
  • Ability to interface with the client, directors, elected officials, service provider, and all levels of hourly and salaried employees, including senior management
  • Knowledge of The RIDE paratransit operation is a plus
