Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking a Leave of Absence Specialist, who is the subject matter expert on leave administration and provides a strategic, centralized focus to managing the company's leave programs, from training, to intake to completion, in accordance with state and federal leave laws and company's policies and procedures. The successful candidate will be responsible for working collaboratively with managers and employees to implement and administer the company's personal, medical and parental leave programs as well as the reasonable accommodation processes for employees with disabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze employee leave requests to determine eligibility and certification in compliance with firm policies as well as state and federal leave laws
  • Responsible for processing leave requests and performing administrative duties involving applicable paperwork
  • Communicate absence, accommodation and return to work information as appropriate to employees, local HR and relevant supervisors/managers
  • Responsible for creating documentation, reporting, follow-up and communicating information to employees, local HR, Benefits, Payroll, management, insurance carriers and other external parties
  • Performs research and collaborates with employees, internal departments and external vendors to identify and resolve problems related to leave designation, time entries and pay coordination
  • Keeps apprised of federal, state, and local leave laws and regulations and assists the Director of HR with updating company policies, process, and procedures to ensure firm's compliance
  • Tracks and reviews workers' compensation claims to ensure they are reported in a timely fashion and are in compliance with company policies and procedures
  • Works closely and coordinates efforts with the Benefits team as needed, as well as the Manager of the Leave of Absence department on escalated leave cases
  • Works closely with the Manager of the Leave of Absence department to ensure the LOA process is compliant, efficient and effective
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned

Talent Requirements:

  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of Human Resources experience and at least three (3) of those years directly involved in leave case management, including approving/administering continuous and intermittent leaves and workplace accommodation
  • Intermediate to advanced software skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Experience working with union employees a plus but not required
  • Extensive knowledge of administration of federal, state and local leave programs and applicable laws, including, but not limited to FMLA, CFRA, PDL, FEHA and SF Paid Parental Leave
  • General understanding of other HR benefits, laws and practices, including, but not limited to various disability benefits, ADA/ADAAA, HIPAA, USERRA
  • Professionalism and confidentiality are essential, with a strong commitment to providing outstanding customer service to employees during a time of need
  • The sense of urgency and drive to meet the expectations of a fast-paced work environment
  • Ability to focus on attention to details while managing multiple competing deadlines and priorities
  • Ability to build and foster effective working relationships with employees, and managers
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively to balance day to day responsibilities with project goals and deliverables
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal and oral/written communications skills are required
