Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking an experienced "B" Level Mechanic for our Reno division. The "B" Level Mechanic will perform routine maintenance and repairs on all fleet vehicles and shop equipment and facility. The "B" Level Mechanic is required to perform all other duties as required and needed to operate the maintenance department within reason to their scope of ability or as directed by the Maintenance Manager, General Manager and MV Support Staff.

Job Requirements

  • Three (3) years experience professional automotive/transit mechanical experience or can show reasonable capabilities to perform these duties.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Class B CDL preferred (with passenger and air brake endorsements).
  • Prior bus or truck experience.
  • Diesel experience a plus.
  • Must possess own tools.
  • Ability to obtain related certifications for the perspective duties and be certified by MV for their core competencies.

Education: Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade.

Skill To: Effectively use and operate the tools and equipment required for the repair and maintenance of large vehicles.

Ability To: Understand the theory, operation, and repair of diesel engines and powered vehicles, heating and cooling, and brake systems; learn and follow industrial and shop safety rules; read and interpret technical manuals and schematics; learn and effectively use personal computers and the Company's software programs for inventory and parts; read maps and locate road-called vehicles; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; understand and follow oral and written instructions; work independently under continual training and close supervision.

Experience/Training: Combination of at least 1 to 2 years of apprentice level verifiable training and experience in automotive or diesel mechanics, which may include high school mechanics courses and/or a regional occupational program.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug testing.
  • Have graduated high school or equivalent.
  • Have taken basic automotive or heavy duty repair courses or have good understanding of basic automotive/heavy duty systems.
  • Have basic entry level tools.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days of employment, a valid Class "B" Commercial Driver License with Passenger Endorsements, and a medical certificate.
  • Work well with others.
  • Must be able to work five (5) consecutive days including Saturday and Sunday and/or holidays as scheduled.
  • Must be willing to work evenings.
  • Willing to learn.
  • Available for training.
  • Able to lift up to 70 lbs.

This position requires availability to work various shifts on weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays
