Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking a Special Projects / Data Analytics Manager who will work with internal and external division stakeholders to create reports/dashboards and perform analysis that will lead to actionable insights. This position will also provide support, leadership and direction to assigned personnel to ensure delivery of the division business plan in our fast-paced transit business.

The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated success as a Data Analyst and should be able to implement design thinking methodology while framing questions and organizing the data. A publicly accessible portfolio of prior work will be valuable.

Position is located in Oceanside, CA. Relocation assistance is available.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Must have demonstrated success as a Data Analyst and should be able to implement design thinking methodology while framing questions and organizing the data
  • Interprets data to identify trends, providing insight into the development of strategies required to ensure that performance indicators meet or exceed client and corporate expectations. Oversees the development of data reporting and tracking mechanisms for operations and maintenance.
  • Directly oversees the development and maintenance of all policies, procedures and plans required by the client.
  • Ensures that all reporting documents for the project are submitted to the client at the required intervals.
  • Directly oversees audit activities at the Division, both internal and external.
  • Ensures performance indicators meet or exceed client and corporate expectations.
  • Ensures division goals and objectives are met or exceeded.
  • Ensures subordinate staff are well trained and being successful.
  • Ensures all company policies and procedures are in place and being followed.
  • Ensures the company vision, values and culture are understood, communicated and promoted throughout operations.
  • Ensures liquidated damages are kept to a minimum and failures are corrected.
  • Develop and maintain a positive employee and labor relations.
  • Trains and mentors a future successor for backfill.

Talent Requirements:

  • Degree in a technical field like Computer Science (CS), Management Information Systems (MIS), Business Analytics (BA), Math, Engineering or related fields. Advanced degrees are preferred.
  • Two (2)+ years of business experience in data analysis. Exposure to Supervised Learning and Unsupervised Learning is preferred.
  • Experience working in a cloud platform. Azure experience is preferred with a good understanding of Azure Data Factory and Databricks.
  • Experience in at least one of the visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau etc. Must be willing to learn/work in Power BI.
  • Must be willing to work in Python. Prior experience in Python or R preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency in SQL (write joins, views, stored procedures, queries to extract data etc.). Must be able to work with SSIS, SSMS and SSAS.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with senior leaders and coworkers to design well -constructed analyses.
  • Certifications according to local contract as required.
  • Knowledge of State and Federal regulations as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Experience in development of runs, shift bids and run cuts.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills including written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
  • Strong supervision skills with ability to lead others to success.
  • Ability to write and speak English.
