Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking a motivated individual to join our division as a Farebox Technician based out of the West Ox, Fairfax Connector facility. The successful candidate must possess the ability to perform daily repairs and maintenance of county-owned and operated fareboxes and electronic systems, including daily DVIR repairs, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and other various repairs. This position will report to the ITS Project Manager and work with the lead farebox technician to ensure all duties are performed efficiently and effectively.


  • Review and promptly respond to DVIR reports for farebox and electronic issues on Fairfax Connector vehicles and perform subsequent troubleshooting and necessary repairs.
  • Address all farebox and electronic systems issues in a timely and expedient manner.
  • Perform necessary PMC3 farebox exchanges according to the PM schedule.
  • Perform all GFI farebox and vault repairs according to maintenance directives outlined in the GFI manufacturer's manual.
  • Respond to calls from other Fairfax Connector divisions regarding farebox, vault, and electronics maintenance and repairs.
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Must be available to take part in and successfully complete GFI Farebox Maintenance Training.
  • Must have or possess the ability to obtain a class B commercial driver's license with a passenger endorsement within 90 days from date of hire.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be self-serving and driven with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented, with strong organizational skills.
  • General knowledge of Windows-based computer operating systems.
  • Must have the ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills. Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Extensive experience working with small electronics and electrical systems a plus.
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be available for rotating 24-hour shift work.
