Job Description

We are seeking an experienced technician with a strong automotive maintenance background. Technician will perform preventative and routine maintenance and repairs on all fleet vehicles and shop equipment. The "B" Level Technician is required to perform all other duties as required and needed to operate the maintenance department within reason to their scope of ability or as directed by the Maintenance Manager. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Diagnoses, examines, and investigates vehicles to determine causes of defective operation of engines, transmissions, differential units, alternators, starters, pumps, air suspension systems, pneumatic systems, radiators, injectors, air conditioning systems, wheelchair lifts, fire suppression systems and other vehicle components.
  • Determines proper course of action to facilitate vehicle repair, maintenance, adjustment, and component replacement.
  • Maintains, adjusts, and/or repairs all bus systems, components, and parts including hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, front ends, and air conditioning systems to ensure the operational fitness of coaches.
  • Performs repairs to brakes and steering systems.
  • Operates buses in order to diagnose component failure, make roadside repairs, or move disabled buses.
  • Operates heavy machinery, hydraulic lifts, hoists and jacks, brake lathes.
  • Communicates, and consults with all levels of employees.
  • Performs related duties, as required.

Job Requirements

  • Able to do all mechanical and electrical diagnosis and repairs on vehicles such as, suspension, heating/air conditioning, drivability, electrical systems, fuel systems, wheelchair lifts and fire suppression systems.
  • Must be able to perform and adhere to compliant preventive maintenance inspection procedures.
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain certifications and qualifications per the contract and any regulatory agencies.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work alone and able to perform without constant or immediate supervision.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff in written and oral formats.
  • Must have computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Must have technical competence with light / medium duty vehicle repair and preventive maintenance.
  • Required to complete all related documents legibly and in a timely manner.
  • Must display initiative, professionalism, candor and tact at all times.
  • Must perform all other duties as required and needed to operate the division or as directed by the division management.
  • Must be able to utilize the company's maintenance management computer program.
  • Technician must be able to pass a drug/alcohol screening, back check and submit to random drug/alcohol testing.
  • Must 21 years old.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Must have and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Must pass and maintain a DOT physical.
  • Must have graduated high school or equivalent.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Must be able to work a varied schedule.
  • Must be willing to take training courses as needed.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds.
