Job Description

MV Transportation is seeking a Safety Manager with a focus on NYS 19-A Qualifications who will be a hands-on helping implement programs and procedures in compliance with State and Federal regulations and corporate and client policies. Responsible for establishing and maintaining the requirements set forth in Article 19-A of the Vehicle and Traffic Law, and Part 6 of the Commissioner's Regulations of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. The Safety Manager will be accountable for the leadership of Article 19A Compliance at the division level. Sets the tone for ensuring all operators are in current compliance with 19-A, training requirements of company, contract and state.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create 19-A files for new operators and maintenance staff and maintain and update all files as necessary.
  • Maintain and manage License Monitor program for compliance.
  • Submit all required 19-A documentation to the Bus Driver Unit of DMV as required.
  • Schedule, direct, and assist as needed with maintaining annual and biennial operator requirements, and documentation defined in Article 19-A.
  • Supervise the utilization of 19-A certified examiners (CE).
  • Assist the Safety Director with necessary compliance reports, 19-A testing schedules, DMV audits, and maintain a level of CEs needed to meet 19-A testing requirements.
  • Complete special projects as requested by the Safety Director and Regional Safety Director.
  • Submit 19A affidavit compliance to BDU.
  • Ensures all new hires meet minimum general qualifications for each division including background and DMV checks.
  • Ensures that Safety technology tools are used and those results are examined, trend data is analyzed and plans are developed to reduce and then prevent future safety incidents.
  • Oversees Corporate Safety Incentives and programs managed effectively and consistently, including assignment of Safety Points.
  • Oversees successful completion of all related audits including those conducted by corporate and client staff and by state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Reviews reporting of all vehicular, passenger and employee accidents/incidents for determination of cause and preventability, identifying potential trends to be addressed in future training efforts.

Talent Requirements:

  • Currently 19-A Certified Examiner.
  • CDL Class B or A with Passenger endorsement / School Bus Qualified.
  • Five (5) + years of current experience in a related transportation industry.
  • One-year accident/injury free driving experience.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess excellent communication and decision-making skills.
  • Proven leadership abilities.
  • Transportation experience.
  • Experience teaching/instructing or public speaking experience.
  • Strong Computer/Microsoft Office Suite.
